Sam and I met in our final year at University, we clicked straight away and graduated with a bang. Competition was tough, but we were both soon employed as integrated Midwives at Princess Ann Hospital, Southampton. As our careers progressed we began to follow slightly different paths, allowing us each to develop our own unique set of skills, which together, strengthened our support of one another, our knowledge and friendship. We would often sit and discuss our love for labour care and our experiences, and time and time again we would fall upon the frustration of so many labouring women with unrealistic expectations and lack of information or preparation.
This led to our light bulb moment and the women were our inspiration. Sam and I often taught together and the positive feedback from our sessions was overwhelming – this is when we created ‘The Naked Midwives’. By managing theses expectations and fears in a ‘naked’ form we would clearly be creating better birth experiences; taught by Midwives with no fluff or filter and here we are now – experience our experience!
